Swine flu vaccine goal: 50 million doses next month
By Associated Press
WASHINGTON (AP) - The government now hopes to have about 50 million doses of swine flu vaccine out by mid-November and 150 million in December.
Doses have been arriving more slowly than had been hoped, but Dr. Nicole Lurie, assistant Health and Human Services secretary for preparedness, told The Associated Press on Wednesday that "by the end of November, I think we're going to be pretty well back on track." She said that despite repeated queries, manufacturers didn't start warning the government until around Columbus Day that they would provide even fewer doses than they'd planned for this month. Apparently companies had thought some of their initial hurdles were going to be solved faster than they were. |
