Highlights from Newt Gingrich's speech
KENNEWICK, Wash. - The former speaker of the House was introduced by his wife. The crowd was about half of what was expected, but the message was big.
"If you help me get the nomination, the caucuses here are going to be very important, you are the last big event before Super Tuesday, so you have a huge chance to really help change things,"Gingrich told the crowd.
He also used the rapidly rising gas prices as a springboard for his nomination.
"As your nominee, I want you to know that we will run an American campaign, not a republican campaign, we're going to say to everybody in the country, if you like $2.50 a gallon for gasoline we want you with us," he said.
Cheers roared at the very thought of lower gas prices.
Gingrich made fuel and independent energy the focal point of his twenty minute speech. He criticized the current government and their energy policies.
His solution is partnering with Canada and building a pipeline to deliver oil to Texas. He is committed to authorizing the construction of the Keystone Pipeline.
Gingrich also touched on religion and foreign politics. It's something he thinks the Obama administration is lacking on, but something he can deliver.
