Softball tournament means big bucks

TRI CITIES- It's a hit for the team and a homerun for our area. The national softball association state championship is in town this weekend meaning huge dollars for the Tri Cities.

Softball player Samantha Godfrey says, "we're all getting food, we're all hungry."

Tri Cities Visitor and Convention Bureau Representative Jordan Youngs says, "they're going to be spending 1 point two million in our local economy."

Money that's being poured into hotels, restaurants, and gas stations making this weekend a cash cow for local businesses.

Hotel Employee Tara Campbell says, "I have seen a lot of teams come in and out and not only that I've seen and have has numerous phone calls for people trying to get in this weekend."

Youngs says, "these are all dollars that tourists are coming here, spending the money then leaving so we don't have to use local taxes to support them."

The softball tournament brings such a large amount of money in such a short amount of time businesses say it's an important weekend for them.

Restaurant manager Kyle Walker says, "we did 4 thousand just on teams last night"

And they aren't the only ones. Visitors tell me they plan on hitting up local businesses all weekend long.

Samantha says, "A ton, yesterday I think we hit four. alone and the day before that I think three."

the tournament is a sign of our ever expanding area. A combination of fun and and financial growth means a win win for all involved.

Kyle says, "it's been tremendous for us."
