Neglected children saved from Grandma's drunk inferno
KEPR has learned police had already been at a Kennewick motel room before it caught on fire -- burning an elderly Yakima woman.
Officers say she and her daughter had been heavily drinking and left her grandchildren alone at the Cedars Inn.
Authorities say the children were removed by the state at the time of their mother's arrest.
But the grandmother stayed behind -- and investigators think she was smoking in bed when it caught on fire.
All the other guests were evacuated safely.
