Local Representative turns her back on the party for lesbian daughter
Party lines were not enough to make Walla Walla representative Maureen Walsh turn her back on her daughter's happiness.
She spoke on the floor before Wednesday's house vote on same-sex marriage.
The 16-th district representative has been hassled for supporting domestic partnerships in the past and was visibly choked up when she asked her fellow house members to support this bill as well.
She said, in part: "my daughter came out of the closet a couple of years ago, and you know what I thought... I was just going to agonize about that. Nothings different. She's still a fabulous human being, and she's met a person she loves very much, and some day, by God, I wanna throw a wedding for that kid."
Just a short time ago -- the Secretary of State announced the Governor will sign same-sex marriage into law on Monday morning.
It's expected to be challenged.
Even if it isn't -- the earliest gay couples could marry would be in June.
