Layoffs Looming at PNNL
RICHLAND -- KEPR has learned potential layoffs are coming to PNNL.
Action News confirmed with the Department of Energy that the lab is getting ready for up to 100 more job losses. They'll likely take place over between February and May.
The full-time positions will be from a wide-range of divisions, including National Security and Environmental, as well as the organizations that support those projects.
The Laboratory says funding has simply been on the decline, meaning there's less work for these scientists and technical staff.
PNNL already laid off about 70 workers in 2011. The additional 100 would be in addition to those.
Officials also say they are doing their best to keep the job losses to a minimum by shuffling workers around to other departments and attrition.
