School Donates 1,000 Items to Safe Harbor
RICHLAND - A class project turned into a schoolwide effort for one local charity.

Students at Carmichael Middle School brought 1,000 items to donate to Safe Harbor Crisis Nursery.

Piles of books, stuffed animals, even paper towels will go to the Kennewick nonprofit that helps families dealing with domestic violence.

A history lesson about the Holocaust turned into a desire to stop acts of violence in the Tri-Cities.

"It felt really good to help others and know that we're doing something good for someone who needs it," said Allison Sparks.

"A little bit of motivation can make everyone do a lot. So I learned how it feels to help someone. It's something huge," said Haylie DeVine.

The community service project was organized by Language Arts teachers and Carmichael's SAVE program (Students Against Violence Everywhere).
