KENNEWICK -- One woman is dead, and police said another man is clinging onto life after a shooting at 220 E. First Ave. in Kennewick.

Both were shot in the head.

Police and investigators pulled the body of 22-year-old Wendy Rae from a 1972 brown El Camino.

They found 38-year-old Jason Jansen alive, outside of the car.

Someone who lives at the Kennewick home called police just before 7:00 a.m. Sunday when they saw Jansen in the front yard.

"The man got out of his car and was staggering around so they went to check on him," Kennewick Police Sgt. Randy Maynard said. "They said he looked pretty beat up. We didn't realize until later that he had a gunshot wound to the head."

Police said Jansen managed to get out of the car but was so badly injured he wasn't able to answer questions.

He was med-flighted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

So, police went knocking on neighbors' doors looking for answers.

"Yeah, it is kind of shocking," neighbor Wayne Woodard said. "It's a real nice neighborhood, you know? It's something that you don't want to wake up to everyday, that's for sure."

Woodard lives in a house right across the street.

He said he didn't hear anything.

In fact, none of the neighbors Action News talked with heard gun shots.

But Wayne said he knew the family.

"I think they were real nice kids," he said. "It's kind of a of tragedy really. I have no idea what could have happened because they were both so mellow."

Police confirmed the victims were in a relationship.

They said Jansen lived with Rae in the basement of his grandmother's home, 218 E. First Ave.

But the shooting happened right next door, where Jansen's dad lives.

Woodard believed Rae might have been pregnant.

"Yeah, she was out here yelling at him that she was pregnant," Woodard said.

Kennewick police could not confirm if Rae was pregnant.

"Until I find out what happens, who knows?" Woodard said.

Police found a semi-automatic pistol inside the car, but they aren't sure it's the same one used to shoot the victims.

K.P.D said they are not looking for a suspect.

They said there is no evidence to point to the involvement of a third person.

In the meantime, K.P.D is sending the gun off to be tested for fingerprints and other evidence.

Officers expect to have autopsy results on Monday.
