KENNEWICK--The City of Kennewick is trying a new way to clear the roads and save money.
"We're trying to experiment a little bit with our mixture of our salt and de-icer material. It's a magnesium chloride. There's a way to put down de-icer and then put a thin layer of salt over which will help extend our resources and it's suppose to be really effective," Pat Everham with the City of Kennewick said.
The city put it on the roads before the snow hit at major intersections and problem areas.
This could eventually save the city 25% once they get the kinks ironed out.
Action News also checked with the City of Pasco.
They said they pre-treat with de-icer and sand after the snow.
Richland uses a de-icer and salt mix, but doesn't sand.
They told us they're already into the neighborhoods.
