BOARDMAN--Billie Jean Morris, Executive Director of the Boardman Chamber of Commerce says, "You know it's been a long time coming, the speedway project, and as most people who know that are involved with economic development projects, it will task your very patience and get on your last nerve before it really happens."

Brenda Terrell lives in Boardman and says, "It seems like everybody is pretty excited about it. They've been waiting for it for quite awhile. It's kinda iffy if it comes and iffy if it don't, ya know?"

Boardman resident Charles Helms said, "It's been something in planning for a quite a while and it's going to be a lot more fun I think being able to maybe go out and see instead of just watching it on TV."

Construction for the first phase of the speedway will start this summer.

Picture a country club, scratch out the water hazards and sand traps and fit a four-mile road in its place.

Helms said, "I think it will draw in people from all over Portland, Oregon to Boise, Idaho and Spokane all down in here."

That's the hope, because it will be the only motorsports country club in the Northwest.

Morris said they're "Pretty excited, we are already noticing some extra activity around the community."

The state of the art facility will be the epicenter of a forty square mile speedway race track opening next summer.

Locals hope the race track will bring in a slew of other local business and give their local economy a big boost.

Helms said, "Lots goes on at a race track, people think on TV they just see the race, they don't see the background, all the hotel workers, and the food preparation."

Morris said, "We're ready to press forward."

The main attraction will be the road course, where members and guests can drive and compete on the same kind of track as the pros.

People are already becoming members of the motorsports park and members will have access everyday, except when there are major events using it.

They plan to have the facility open all year long.
