OLYMPIA -- Ninety-one votes.

That's how many Senator Jerome Delvin missed.

We wanted to know why.

We caught up with Delvin on the road.

"The one Saturday was a cutoff and they hadn't planned on working," Delvin told us over the phone. "And that Saturday they passed, like 30 or 40 bills."

He claims he only missed three days, either for family issues or because he was meeting with politicians.

Besides, he says he voted for the bills...after he missed voting for them the first time.

He said many bills come back to the floor for another vote and he got them then.

Representative Larry Haler had one of the best records.

But that's news to him.

"I thought I'd be right at the top of the list missing those three votes," Haler said.

Haler claims he had a meeting here at home.

But he says he couldn't be an effective lawmaker if he missed any more.

"I could not be, unless I got sick and then I'd hope people would cut me some slack," he said.

Senator Mike Hewitt missed 52 votes, but he came down with pneumonia and was sent home for a week.

Representative Shirley Hankins missed 13 votes. she didn't return calls.

And at the end of the list, Representative Bill Grant didn't miss any.
