Pendleton Police Will Be Watching You!

PENDLETON - "A total of six cameras that will be spaced out every few blocks," said Pendleton Lt. Mark Swanson.

The big problem place is here at the Umatilla River Parkway. There have been lots of broken lights on the Bedford Bridge and graffiti. Over $10,000 in damage has happened there this year. We talked to one local who walks here all the time. She gives the cameras a thumbs up.

"I think it's a good idea. Theres lots of kids that hang out there. Not that they're all bad but there could be. There was a killing that took place during Round Up. If its a little safer for the older people then I say go for it," said Pendleton Resident Charlotte Carner.

"So the camera will help get that viewpoint going that east and west so you can get the coverage with the eye that you cant when they turn around and see you and run," said Swanson.

One of the other big trouble spots is here at Roy Raley Park. Early this year, they had a flurry of vandalism at the restrooms with many broken toilets and lights.

The big question still remains. Are these cameras really necessary?

"Well, we are a small department and not having resources to be able to have everywhere covered at one time by staff, the cams will be able to give our patrol officers and the public a view of real live time action," said Swanson.
