Students Hitting The Radio Airwaves!
By Kyle Trompeter
HERMISTON - The Armand Larive student newscast begins in three, two, one!
"The staff at Armand Larive Middle School wants to thank you for coming to the student lead conferences," said Emily Vanehay. These three kids are only in sixth grade and already hitting the radio airwaves in Hermiston. They report about all things Armand Larive. It's a show by the students, but for the public, and with a little help and airtime from KOHU AM. "We put together the script first, which has the information like times, date, and place," said Vanehay. "I've written about the band and choir concert that was done about four weeks ago," said Doug Stoddard. "Basically all kinds of different news. There's one we are recording today talking about congratulating some teachers and there is a canned food drive coming up. I like doing it because we get to write our own scripts and be on the radio," said Vanehay. Right now, the kids put together a broadcast about once a month. It only lasts for just a few minutes, but the information is important for the public. "It gives the school publicity and tells people about upcoming events," said Brady Linnell. Is this also the start of a news career? "Possibly. My dad works at the radio station that's recording us," said Vanehay. Well the news genes are definitely in place, but will they grow up to be professional newscasters? You'll just have to tune in next time. |
