Basin City 2006 Landslide Still on the Ground
BASIN CITY-- This weekend’s landslide near Naches brings to mind another landslide in Basin City. It happened in the spring of 2006 and not a lot has changed in those three years.

So much time has passed that you can't tell if Road 170 ever went anywhere. Instead, you see dry, flaky dirt and very tall plants.

Franklin County Commissioner, Rick Miller says it has been frustrating, but that's the process.

Franklin County has gotten some money. But the biggest chunk, $2 million, is still in the works.

The U.S. Senate approved it. Now it's up to the House. If approved it will not pay to re-pave Road 170, but rather establish a new road downhill.

"There were some people who said just go over, same money, same road. But I thought it was a matter of safety,” said Miller.

This isn't the first landslide at Road 170. Miller says two others have caused a similar mess in the last twenty years.

Congress will determine if it will approve the additional $2 million needed for improvements in the next few weeks.
