PENDLETON - The band aids have been ripped off the Round Up. First up - Court and Dorion. The intersection is back under the knife, and crews will now be working double time until the end of November.

“Then we're going to shut down the project and come back April 1st of 2010 and make the big push to have that intersection landscaped and completed by August 15th of 2010 before the 100 year anniversary of Round Up,” said Pendleton Public Works Director Bob Patterson.

The project also includes repaving all of Court and Dorion, but that part isn't happening anytime soon.

“So that work is going to progress in the calendar year of 2010. So April 1st through August 15th of 2010 we'll be doing that work and all the work associated with it,” said Patterson.

That gives them a month buffer if they get behind on the job. So businesses around the area should expect get blitzed by the construction again next year.

“The estimates are their business around that intersection has gone down as much as 50 percent over normal. So we are planning in working with them to make sure that by Thanksgiving, they have full access again,” said Patterson.

The other big project is an 8,000,000 dollar facelift to the west side of the Round Up grounds. A new grandstand is on the way. It will also be covered, which is just what the doctor ordered.

“It's always been referred to as the Sun Bowl when it didn't have a cover. So it's going to make it more comfortable for spectators for the Round Up itself. It's going to make the 100th one heck of an event,” said Round Up’s Carl Culham.
