20 Acre Brush Fire Along Hwy. 97
By Sade Malloy
Near Toppenish -- The warm weather is making it a busy weekend for
firefighters. A 20 acre brush fire had Yakima County and Yakama Nation Fire Management working alongside Highway 97 outside of Toppenish Sunday. Firefighters tell us it took 4 hours to get it contained. "High Winds today and low humidity, it's causing suppression problems so when the fire gets started they like to grow larger, faster," says Ryan Sanchey, Yakima Nation Fire Management. At one point, the fire was burning on both sides of the highway. Firefighters tell us they're still working on a cause. |
