HERMISTON - It's costing more to do business in the Hermiston court system.

Filing an appeal jumped to $50. Getting your drivers license reinstated jumped by 10 bucks. Any time you appear in court you'll have to pay for security. For crime, it's $10. For violations, it’s five bucks. The court tells Action News they didn't raise prices to try to keep people out of court. One of the main reasons is increasing security in the courtroom.

“If you've ever been to circuit court you know how judges and clerks tend to be set off a bit. It’s a rare occasion when that's actually necessary, but I take my duty to protect the court and the clerk very seriously,” said Hermiston Municipal Court Judge Tom Creasing.

The court wants to use the extra money to build a bigger, more protective bench, as well as install metal detectors.
