Benton City Farmer's Market Gets Slow Start
By Holly Zuluaga
BENTON CITY—It was a late start for one farmer's market.
Benton City's community market just set up shop Sunday for the start of the season. Organizers tell Action they start later because that's when the best product is available. Last year’s crops were late so there wasn't any point to opening earlier. Organizers say Sunday’s opening was a slow start, but they expect business to pick up. “A number of other markets are already full and on waiting lists and we're the newest market in the county so this will be our 3rd year, we're really gaining some traction and people know that we're here, we'll pick up probably 4 to 5 more vendors over the next 5 weeks,” Randy Rutledge said. This is also the first year that the market is on Main Street. They've moved every year, but hope the prime spot will help attract more customers. |
