PASCO - There's backlash over a proposed migrant housing unit.
On Monday, neighbors from the Ringold crowded into the Franklin County court house asking county leader to put a stop to a 100-bed farm workers facility.
They're worried about safety. The state is paying for the project. It's been in the works for five years, but neighbors claim they just heard about this a couple months ago.
"This isn't a issue of race. This is our right to have safety and know what's going on in our community. I don't want my tax dollars to go to an experimental project," said Jodii Guilbeau.
County commissioners say their hands are all but tied, but the state funding is on its way.
Commissioner Brad Peck offered to ask them to hold off until they can find the right site and maybe a few on a smaller scale instead of a 100-bed facility.
