UMATILLA - Too many students, not enough space. A Umatilla elementary school is finally getting some relief.
Our reporter spotted a student in the school taking a makeup test in a room that's basically a closet, and small classrooms are split in half by just a bulletin board.
The school was meant to house 450 kids, it currently holds 660.
"We are hoping the additions that we add will last a minimum of 20 years, but we're focusing on quality. However, it's important for people to remember that if the schools continue to grow like they have been, we may need more buildings over the next 20 years. These are intended to last for 20 years," said Umatilla Superintendent Heidi Sipe.
The school will add an annex with more than a dozen classrooms and a multi purpose room. The new building will be ready to go when school starts.
