UMATILLA- It was a big scare for some parents, but there is some good news from Umatilla. The school district won't be cutting as many teachers and programs as expected.
In February, the district announced a dozen teachers and five- sports would be eliminated.
But some federal grant money and moving teachers around within the district will let nine- people keep their jobs.
A pay to play system will keep baseball, softball and cheerleading around.
"We had a lot of parent support. I've had parents that told me you just worry about getting a coach and we'll fund your program. We got some go getters, you just tell them how much you need and they'll go get it," said Umatilla High Athletic Director Scott Depew.
The district tells action news they're still hoping to retain golf and wrestling - they're still looking for private money for both.
