UMATILLA- People need jobs - fast. That's not new.

People also need to utilize more wind energy - now that may be a new one.

The Bonneville Power Administration thinks they have the answer to both - with a new transmission line project.

"It's great that we have this opportunity to build this project and allow this much renewable energy to get into the mix of those things that will be consumed by the northwest," said BPA Spokesman Doug Johnson.

The project will create 700 jobs.

"Creating jobs for people to build steel towers, build access roads or do road work that will allow us to do maintenance on this line and do all of those jobs that you associate with a major construction project to build a high voltage transmission line," said Johnson.

The project will sign a contractor in May. Action News will have the information when that happens about where you can apply for a job on the project.
