Bill Hopes to Keep Washington Wine Grapes Local

Bill Hopes to Keep Washington Wine Grapes Local
WASHINGTON--Weeding out california grapes in Washington Wines.

A new bill may make it happen.

Representative Dan Newhouse just introduced the measure, it would require anyone using a Washington wine label to use grapes only grown in the state, keeping it all local.

Most local Wineries already use Washington grapes.

They like the bill.

"I think it's fantastic, it's a natural progression of tightening our standards to what really qualifies as a Washington Wine," John Bookwalter said.

Right now the current law allows Washington wines to get a quarter of the grapes out of state.
