Locksmiths Feel Economic Crunch
By Rudabeh Shahbazi
KENNEWICK-- While almost everyone is feeling the crunch of the economy, people whose offices are on wheels are suffering even more.
Many locksmiths depend on large vans to get around when people need them. The rising cost of gas, locks and insurance, is hurting the bottom line. Locksmiths generally cannot get a second job, because their business is emergency-based, and they have to be on-call around the clock. But Charlie Sampair said the calls have slowed down because people don't have money to spend. "It's just surviving until the economy can get a little bit better, to where people are willing to let go of some of that money that they got," said Sampair. He said business is too slow and competitive to raise prices, so while the overhead continues to rise, his income keeps going down. |
