Speeders Love Highway 240

Speeders Love Highway 240

By Ryan Harris

Come on people it's a roadway not a race track. More people are breaking the law on highway-240 -- than any other spot in the state. That's right if you're used to speeding past the river it's time to slow your roll. The men in blue will be looking for you. And a speeding ticket won't come cheap. Highway-240 is one of the worst spots for speeders. Actually it's the worst spot in all of Washington State. We wanted to know whose fault it is, so we talked to a few people. Josh Scogin said he thought the cops were just hanging out, trying to pull people over all the time. Maybe the cops wouldn't be there if drivers followed the rules. A DOT survey found more than 80% of cars on 240 are going above the speed limit, which was just raised last year. It must not be high enough because drivers average 63-miles an hour on the 60-mile per hour road. Is this surprising to anyone? Not to Zane Wood who has racked up five tickets in the area. "The Tri-cities, it seems like people are driving excessively fast most of the time, myself included." Just 6% are going over 70. But in a two-month period last year more than 1,500 cars were clocked going faster than 90. Melissa Filkowski believes this is something that needs to be addressed. "I know there have been some fatal accidents that have impacted the community, so i think it's worth looking at, and see if we need to do anything as a community to change that," and Zane is usiong every ploy he can to avoid another ticket. "I use my cruise control everywhere i go now, and i'm a lot more cautious". So keep in mind, even if you feel like you're driving like a grandma, you're actually saving money. Every mile below 60 is easier on your gas tank.
