TRI-CITIES - Around the world January 21 is known as blue Monday, the unhappiest day of the year.

It all started with a British researcher who came up with a formula to find the unhappiest day of the year.

It calculates that Christmas is long gone, but the bills are starting to come in. And the weather is cold and miserable. Translation... we're all miserable.

If Monday's aren't bad enough, this is the mother of all Mondays.

"This is the day most of your Christmas bills come and we find we broke our New Year's resolution."

"I read, exercise, call my kids and try to stay positive."

There is a few things you can do, get active, call up a friend and my favorite pamper yourself.

"I would start with a facial or even a massage," said Jenn Waltz.

Waltz is owners of Nouveau Day Spa. She hadn't heard of "Blue Monday" before we came calling. But maybe that's because when you work in a place with soothing sounds and sensual smells the blues don't stick around.

"I love my job people come in a feel sad or hurt and leave feeling like a new person," said Waltz.

But some folks we talked to didn't even need all that. No blue Monday for this guy.

"I don't go into credit cards, no bills to pay. I'm happy with my job. Not blue for me I'm having a great time," said Chris Zimmon.

Blue Monday can be a link to Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).

It's that winter depression with shorter days and not enough sunlight.
