PROSSER--This is more than just a sad story.
If the allegations are true it's a sick one too.
A dog dumped on the side of the road and poisoned.

We've seen it before.
People so desperate to dispose of their dogs that they do the unthinkable.
The sad thing is there are options.

Meet Laddie. he's moving around now but this guy has had it pretty rough.

"The man who found him said he was next to a bloody bag, like someone had tied him up in it," Yvette Fitzjarrold said.

Yvette Fitzjarrald runs "A Paw Up Rescue" in Prosser.
She took Laddie in after they say he was thrown from a moving car.

"At first we just thought he had a little cut,"Fitzjarrold said.

But Laddie took a turn for the worst.
His ear wouldn't stop bleeding and after a visit to the vet,
"She said the only thing that could have caused this was rat poison,
we came to the conclusion that he had probably been fed it," Fitzjarrold said.

So the pup had to have a blood transfusion

"I made a pact with laddie that if he fought we'd do everything we could for him and he held up his end of the bargain," Fitzjarrold said.

This isn't the first time this has happened, its part of a county wide epidemic.
Benton County has no animal control.
Commissioners put together a task force about a year ago, but nothing ever surfaced.
Laddie isn't the first dumped dog and sadly he probably won't be the last.

"It makes me angry but it doesn't shock me, there are other legitimate options", Fitzjarrold said.

there is no animal control but there are rescue groups like Yvette's.
all it takes is a little research online or in the Phone Book.

"It's tragic because most of the time it's a highly adoptable dog," Fitzjarrold said.

Right now Laddie is doing much better. He's taking his meds and should be available for adoption soon.

If you are looking to adopt a pet you can find A Paw Up Rescue Group online.
All of their pets are spayed, neutered and micro-chipped before adoption.
