Richland School Board Names New Superintendent
KENNEWICK - A second grade teacher rises in the ranks. The Richland school board picked its new superintendant.

Jean Lane has worked in the Richland School District for 16 years. Now she'll be the top dog. She'll take over for Richard Semler when he retires this year. Semler is well known for taking on the WASL.

Lane says she won't shy away from pressing the issue either. One of lane's first order of business is to spend a new $70,000 in schools.

She says they are going to spend the money on updating technology in the older schools. The out-going superintendent might be retiring but he's not planning to slow down.

Semler announced at this week's school board meeting that he's running for the state's top education post. The state superintendent seat will be open next year. The vote is a year from now.
