PASCO, Wash. - KEPR checked back in on Pasco students using iPads instead of going to summer school. Construction at five schools meant classes couldn't be held over the summer.

Students were issued tablets instead, each is loaded with dozens of bilingual titles. Students check with teachers once a week to monitor their progress.

Administrators say some kids are reading so fast, they've had to add more titles.

Parents have noticed the difference.

Elida Figueroa said, "They learn more because they playing but they are learning."

Administrator Liz Flynn said, "Our kids have less resources. They're further away from the public library, so this is a way to get those books into their hands."

The students will be formally tested on their skills at the end of summer.
