RICHLAND -- An old Richland firehouse may see a Montessori makeover at the disappointment of some residents.

The Richland city council will hold a public hearing to decide the fate of the Wright Street fire station. The building hasn't served its intended purpose for decades. A preschool uses the building about eight hours a week.

The station is now being leased to Sagebrush Elementary, leaving the preschool to find other options.

"There are a lot of budget cuts that are happening and we know programs have to go and buildings have to go and you know, you can't hold that against anybody," says Cle Ella Mattox-Sapp, a teacher at the fire house.

This is the first step in the possible sale of the Wright Street fire station.
