WorkSource grant program ends, 400 Hanford workers helped
KENNEWICK, Wash. -- KEPR is checking back on the success from a million dollar grant intended to help laid-off Hanford workers find a new job.

The program ended in December.

Action News learned our local WorkSource helped almost 400 of those workers.

Around 230 people found a new full time job. Most of the money was spent on tuition assistance, training, and other services.

Program directors say the program will help planning for future layoffs.

"The fact of the matter is, Hanford, going forward will be a series of reductions. Perhaps not to that same level, but we're taking that experience that we learned from that and moving it forward as we deal with future layoffs at Hanford," says Director Cos Edwards.

Looking forward, WorkSource hopes it can leverage the success to help those hit by the most recent Hanford layoffs.
