HERMISTON, Ore. -- Hermiston police are once again going after a parent for their kid's bad behavior. On Wednesday, the mother of a 14-year-old was charged with "failure to supervise a child." Police say her teen is responsible for two recent graffiti outbreaks that racked up thousands of dollars in damage.

Hermiston police initiated the policy of citing parents a few years ago. In 2011, three dozen parents were cited, 27 the following year, and 36 last year, which is about a three a month. Failure to supervise a child has also been used for truancy.
