BENTON COUNTY, Wash. -- Benton County firefighters are still tied by Tuesday's fire off Clodfelter Road. Five days later, firefighters are still dealing with smoldering piles of debris. Many people have seen that smoke and dialed 911, not knowing it's coming from existing fires. Emergency workers have received nearly two dozen calls about the smoke. They tell us the burning piles are not a danger to any homes in the area.

"The resources needed to put these piles out, we don't have at this time. And if we could, we would. But there's so much activity going on right now, we just can't afford dedicate resources to putting these piles out," says Captain Darrin Henderson.

Firefighters are required to respond to every single call, even if they expect that call isn't legitimate.
