BENTON CITY, Wash. -- U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell visited Benton City today to talk about the impact of the new farm bill.

She toured the Inland Desert Grapevine Nursery, where she talked about how the new farm bill will provide a 50 percent increase for research dollars into apples, cherries, potatoes and other specialty crops grown in Washington. The senator also shared the impact of having more research money to continue critical export programs, particularly to Asia, and to keep people in Washington working.

"Let's not forget agriculture is still the number one employer in our state, and getting important policy and partnerships to continue our innovation is going to continue to help grow jobs for the future," said Cantwell.

Senator Cantwell also toured a fruit company in Yakima today.
