RICHLAND, Wash. - It sounded very real but a head-on collision with a truck and a car was all part of a drill.

PNNL does this a few times a year to make sure crews know how to handle a real disaster.

The crash simulated multiple injuries along with a chemical spill. It gave the fire department, DOE and hazmat team a chance to hone their skills.

Thousands work on the campus making the need for these drills very necessary.

Franny White with PNNL said, "Just like any government organization, if something happens you have to have a methodology and how to respond to an emergency and this is just practice."

The area of the drill was controlled, no one in the community was in danger at any time.
