"The Dark Night Rises" is playing at both the Fairchild Cinemas in Pasco and the Carmike in Kennewick. Despite the tragedy in Colorado, Rob Philson and other Batman fans won't be scared away from seeing the much anticipated film. Though there is still some apprehension. Police believe the Colorado gunman came in with his weapons through an emergency exit.
Action News took a look at the exits in place at Fairchild Cinemas.
Manager Craig Bissell says getting in through the out door is near impossible. "The only way the door can get opened", he says "is if it's opened from the inside." While reassuring, Colorado police now believe the shooter was part of the audience, and then propped the exit door as he left -- to suit up and come in with guns blazing.
At Fairchild, they have alarms in place to signal staff every time an emergency exit is opened. Workers are immediately sent to check it out.
This isn't a new rule - it's their standard way of operating. Fairchild does plan extra precautions for the late night screenings.
"We only open one door for entry at a time so each individual had to come through by themselves."
Backpacks and purses are also inspected.
The added security is reassuring to those who don't want to let this isolated tragedy deter them from enjoying a movie.
As theater goer Rob says "you just never really know, you just don't know" . And you really don't. Our hearts go out to the victims and families involved.
