BENTON CITY, Wash. -- The current superintendent of the Kiona-Benton School District will get another year on the job. Wade Haun was originally expected to fill the position temporarily.

But now the board has extended his contract all the way through the end of next school year. The board says Haun exceeded expectations and improved the relationship with workers' unions.

Haun doesn't bring a formal background in education, but one local mother says she isn't concerned.

"He wouldn't be there. The school board is smart enough to know that they are not going to endanger anybody," said Cynthia Burnett.

The last superintendent stepped down suddenly after the district was ordered to repay money it had been overpaid.
