BENTON COUNTY, Wash. -- Just yesterday, we told you how this heat has the numbers way down. But despite that, we've learned just as many homes are being broken into as last year except for one area.
Between this year and last year the number of burglaries in all of the county is relatively the same, except the unincorporated parts of Kennewick.
That area accounted for about 24 percent of crime last year.
This year it's up to about 30 percent. Some residents have decided to move because of this.
"I don't want my kids to grow up and have to stay somewhere they have no choice, you know, we do have choices. We can leave. We're lucky. We can move," said Amy Roacha.
The Benton County Sheriff's department says no matter how small your community is you can organize a watch group. They are often the most effective tool at stopping crime in your neighborhood.
