BASIN CITY -- Authorities are still looking for clues in a homicide case that left an 88-year-old man dead. The crime has shocked neighbors in the small of Basin City.

When Anne Smith heard about the murder that happened just a few blocks from her house, she was astounded.

"Oh my gosh. Why here?" She asks.

Anne has lived in Basin City for most of her life. She says it's worrying when there's a car is stolen, let alone a murder.

"I can't think of anybody in Basin City that's horrible or that somebody would want to be getting rid of," she added.

Law enforcement was shocked as well.

"Twenty-five years ago, it wasn't that uncommon to have a homicide or two or three a year, but it's been a number of years since we had any in the county," says Franklin County Sheriff Richard Lathim.

Police responded to a house on Fairway Road Friday morning. Police say 88 year old Frank V. Sanchez was murdered, but authorities have no leads or suspects. It's hard news to cope with, but residents like Anne see it as suspicious and would rather law enforcement take their time in the investigation so they can nab the person responsible.

"I just hope they find out for sure with no mistakes made that it is what it is. Rather than being hyper. What really did happen, what really was this caused by," Anne continued.

Law enforcement spent most of Friday night and all day Saturday taking pictures and investigating the home. While they say this is an isolated incident, Anne says it's a very clear snapshot of where society is.

"I just think there's a lot of wickedness out there in the world today. That's the thing that really bothers me more than anything else," she added.

As a woman of faith, she says she's looking forward to better times ahead.

"I just pray that the time is coming. The good times are coming," she says.

The last homicide in Franklin County happened in 2006. Law enforcement officials say a decrease in drug activity has helped reduce the number of violent deaths overall.
