KENNEWICK, Wash. - Three new buildings off Columbia Drive in Kennewick will go up next spring as "Columbia Gardens" starts to take shape.

The Port of Kennewick teamed with the city to clean up the area near Duffy's Pond. That's the area to the right when you're heading north on Clover Island Drive toward the marina and hotel.

Work on the new walking trail is already underway. The plans for rebuilding the retail area near Clover Island are in the final stages.

What's left of the buildings on Columbia Drive will be cleared out this fall, making way for the new village to go up.

Tana Bader Inglima with the port said, "The levy really walled our community off, away from our river and we've kind of turned our backs on the waterfront and this is an opportunity to reclaim that . The thing that's really exciting is the fact that there's interest from the wineries, they want to be here."

Several businesses, restaurants and distilleries have expressed interest in opening once the buildings are finished.
