KENNEWICK - World Autism Day was honored with a family event in Kennewick today

April is Autism Awareness Month.

The Carson Kolzig Foundation Responding to Autism Center featured live music and games.

Organizers of the event were happy with the turn-out.

Events like this are designed to build awareness for the disorder.

"Helping people understand and become aware of what autism is, how it affects not only the individual, but the entire family, they can get the education, support, and services that they need," said Christine Lindgren, the director of the center.

Autism is now said to effect one in 50 school-aged kids.

The ceremony also had a balloon release, signifying hope for those dealing with Autism.
