KENNEWICK-- It's been named one of the most dangerous intersections in Kennewick. Now it's getting a fix.
The city plans to widen Edison Street and add a left turn lane onto Metaline, which is the entrance to Kamiakin High School.
The city says many of the crashes from last year were rear-end accidents. It seems drivers don’t always realize someone is trying to make a left at the school as they drive over the railroad crossing, heading South on Edison.
Drivers turning left onto Metaline also have to be careful and not take the turn as cars are coming the opposite direction.
The city plans to begin work on the new $1.2 million turn lane in early Spring and possibly be done by the end of the year. It will take a little more time because the railroad crossing at that location also has to be widened.
