Original Lens Doctor Review

Every now and then a product comes along that makes a claim that sounds too good to be true. Take, for example, the Original Lens Doctor that for $14.95 promises to make scratched glasses as good as new! You may have seen the commercial. Consumer Reports just ran a claim check with the help of an outside lab.

Testers applied the Original Lens Doctor to dozens of scratched lenses, one, two, and three times, according to directions. The results were disappointing. Readability got worse, especially when more than one coat was applied. In some instances, the Lens Doctor solution actually left streaks on the lenses.

In addition to lab tests, Consumer Reports asked several staffers to try the product. None of them had a good experience. Here’s a sampling of their comments:

“There was no improvement with the Lens Doctor and now the lenses are in worse condition.”

“After the first application, the lenses were so streaky I didn’t even bother doing anymore.”

“I found that there was no improvement in the clarity and that the glasses were not wearable.”

The product does have a money-back guarantee, but it doesn’t say anything about covering any damage to your glasses as a result of using the Lens Doctor solution.
