Ken Schram: Giving Christmas the cold shoulder

By Aaron Kellogg

So, maybe Santa Claus won't be coming to town.

Seems his flight into Sea-Tac is on the cusp of being cancelled.

After getting all sorts of flak for tearing down airport Christmas trees last year, Port of Seattle officials went out and appointed themselves a very officious sounding "Holiday Advisory Decoration Committee."

Well, if the committee has its way there won't be any Christmas trees getting torn down this year, because the committee is recommending that no Christmas trees go up.

Opting for what it calls "an inclusive and warm environment at the airport," the committee is giving Christmas the cold shoulder.

Oh, there may be some spruced up spruces come this holiday season, but the edict is that they not be dressed up to appear anything like a Christmas trees.

No red ribbons; no bows; no blinking lights; no angels.

Nothing that overtly says "Merry Christmas."

Isn't that special?

Here's what I think: In a sorry attempt to offend no one, the Port of Seattle is going to end up ticking off just about everyone.

In their prissy, politically correct attempt to homogenize Christmas, port commissioners are going to find voters making a list, and checking it at least twice.

Ho. Ho. Ho.
