Ken Schram: Keep looking into those oil profits

By Ken Schram

SEATTLE - I believe Rob McKenna.

Earlier this year, the attorney general said he's yet to find any evidence of gasoline price fixing here in Washington State.

But I'm a stubborn S-O-B and while I believe him, in my mind that just means Rob needs to keep looking.

In the meantime, maybe some brilliant economist can explain to me how oil company profits keep exploding even as the price of crude oil hits new record highs.

Seems to me that the only explanation for that is that the oil monopolies keep escalating their profit margins beyond those hikes in crude.

And while that economist is at it, maybe she or he can clue me in as to why gas here in our state is 27-cents higher than the national average.

And don't give me that supply and demand routine because demand here has been lower of late.

Now, to all the people who keep e-mailing me about boycotting particular brands of gas as a way to drive prices down, please stop.

That nonsense is almost as irritating as the oil companies continuing to pull off what I think is one of the greatest scams of the 21st Century.

But I do believe that Rob McKenna hasn't found out how.

At least not yet.
