Lena Vargas anchors the weekend news for Action News.

But Lena’s experience goes beyond the desk. She contributes regular enterprise reports during the week with reporting experience spanning several years from Florida to Texas, to Maryland, and now Washington State.

That includes everything from "live” reports from hurricane weather---breaking and exclusive news---to political storms from the Texas State Capitol to Washington, D.C.

Besides completing a Masters program in Broadcast Journalism from Syracuse University, Lena holds a degree in political science from Claremont McKenna College.

She’s also been recognized individually by the Radio and Television News Directors Foundation (RTNDF) and the National Press Foundation.

In 2004, she accepted the competitive N.S. Bienstock Fellowship from RTNDF, an award open to any journalist with fewer than ten years of experience.

And in 2007, she was one of twenty journalists selected for the National Press Foundation’s Paul Miller Fellowship. The focus of the fellowship is on covering the federal government for local audiences.

Lena is a California native happy to be back in warm weather, enjoying all Washington has to offer. She is a native Spanish speaker with hobbies such as salsa dancing, sewing, and reading.
