BENTON COUNTY, Wash. -- The man accused of the rape and murder of a Richland baby could now go on trial in the coming months.

Jose Aguilar is charged with second-degree murder and first-degree rape in the death of Serenity Reedy.

A final court date has not been set. It will depend on testimony and evidence presented at Aguilar's next hearing.

Lawyers for both sides gave an update on where they are with the case.

"I do want the record to show that Miss Ajax and Miss Whittier went down to Southern California to interview the detectives and took statements from the defendant," said Andy Miller.

Aguilar is a convicted sex offender out of Kansas. He had been living with the baby's mom at the time of Serenity Reedy's death.
