BENTON COUNTY, Wash. -- KEPR has learned street racing may have led to the death of a woman in Kennewick.

Nina Howard was killed while crossing West 27th near Ely Street.

Michael Johnson is being held on suspicion of vehicular homicide.

Johnson's 18-year-old son says he was street racing his father and that the 46-year-old may have been going 70 mph in a 40-mph zone at the time the woman was struck.

Howard died at the scene.

Johnson told police he had taken lithium a couple hours earlier and smoked marijuana in oil form the night before.

He has not been formally charged but is being held on $100,000 bail. A mental evaluation has been recommended.

He will be back in front of a judge at the end of the month.
