PASCO, Wash. - Operations are back to normal at Lourdes Medical Center in Pasco after a gas leak at the hospital last night.

Hospital staff became aware of a natural gas leak around 7:30pm. The fire department and other agencies worked to ensure the safety of patients while dealing with the leak.

Only two patients had to be relocated but the entire first floor was evacuated. The gas runs the facility's boiler system but can be switched over to diesel for situations like this. They can keep the medical center up and running for up to 2 weeks.

Melanie Johnston with Lourdes said, "We can also refuel that diesel for as long as we want without interrupting patient services right here on site."

Final repairs are underway but must be certified by the state before the generators can be switched back to natural gas.
