Early Grape Harvest

Early Grape Harvest
PASCO, Wash. -- It's been a hot summer...and all of that heat has sped the grape harvesting process along.

Some grape growers say they will start harvesting as early as next week.
This is at least a week earlier than normal.

The head of Sagemoor Vineyards says this extra time allows growers to spread out all of the work that goes into harvesting.

"If we don't start until the third week in September, we still have to finish the first of November, which puts a big crunch on people, equipment, on the whole process, and on the wine industry," said Kent Waliser.

Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc are some of the grapes that will be harvested first.

Grapes that ripen later are expected to be harvested on schedule.
